GE Discovery IQ Gen 2 is a high-tech imaging method created by combining positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT). GE Discovery IQ Gen 2 also plays an active role in the treatment of cardiac and neurological diseases, especially in the field of oncology. The PET-CT imaging device in our hospital successfully performs the diagnosis, treatment planning and post-treatment evaluation processes of cancer diseases, thanks to its low radiation and high-speed scanning feature.

PET-CT imaging method is vital for early diagnosis of cancer, treatment planning, staging, detecting recurrences, identifying metastases, planning radiotherapy treatment and evaluating treatment success in oncological diseases. Cancer types in which the GE Discovery IQ Gen 2 PET-CT device is most effective can be listed as lung cancer, breast cancer, thyroid cancer, head and neck cancers, colorectal cancers, esophagus cancer, stomach cancer, gynecological cancers, bladder cancer, prostate cancer, lymphoma and melanoma.

The steps followed during scanning are as follows:

  • The patient should stop eating six hours before the PET-CT scan.
  • By measuring the patient’s blood sugar, it is checked whether the blood sugar is below the desired limit for screening.
  • The radiolabeled sugar molecule, which can be absorbed by the cells, is injected into the body through the vein.
  • It takes approximately one hour for the drug to adhere to the cells.
  • The patient is taken to the PET-CT device and imaging is started.
  • Detailed three-dimensional images of the body are taken with the help of X-ray.
  • Sugar molecules collected in abnormal structures or cancerous cells are easily distinguished because of their bright appearance.
  • Scanning takes 20-25 minutes depending on the area to be imaged.

Since the radiation taken during the PET-CT procedure is excreted in the urine, it is recommended to consume plenty of water, especially on the day of the scan, and to flush the urinal several times after urination. On the other hand, although the radiation received during the application does not pose a risk to those around, it is recommended to stay away from long-term contact with young children and pregnant women who are in the risk group against radiation for 12 hours, just in case.

We have all kinds of world-class technical equipment and physical infrastructure that can intervene in our patients, in our hospital. All medical devices in our hospital for diagnosis, treatment, patient care and patient safety are the products of internationally recognized brands.

As Reyap Hospital, we provide uninterrupted and complete service with our large and experienced staff, using up-to-date technological tools in line with up-to-date scientific information.
