Medtronic Stealvigation tools, a central detection system that allows tumor staining, determine the shortest and safest paths to the tumor. Defining the localization and extent of lesions is critical for safe maximal resection (removal) of brain and spinal cord tumors. Neuronavigation systems have been developed for neurosurgery to aid in the accurate resection of brain tumors. The purpose of the Medtronic StealthStation S8 neuronavigation device is to create a link between the digital image data and the anatomical structure, thereby providing increased 3D orientation. Today’s navigation systems provide an accuracy of about 2mm. Medtronic StealthStation S8 neuronavigation device is used for localization of small intracranial lesions, skull base surgery, intracranial endoscopy, functional neurosurgery, spinal navigation problems.
Before starting the surgical procedure, MR or CT images of the patient are taken with markers that adhere to the head area of our patient and surrounds the lesion. These are transferred to a special image format on CD or transferred to the workstation via computer connection in the hospital. In this way, our surgeons can plan their preoperative strategies. Before starting the operation, the patient is held in a fixed position. Then, the markers attached to the head are marked one by one with a special magnetic device by the surgeon. An antenna, located close to the patient and detecting infrared magnetic waves, matches the current position of the patient with the image data in the pictures. After the accuracy of this match is confirmed by the computer, the special magnetic probe in the hands of our surgeons moves and changes direction. Meanwhile, movement in the same direction is observed on the three-dimensional image on the screen of the neuronavigation device. In other words, whichever direction our surgeons move the device in their hand, it is seen that the CT or MR images on the screen approach or move away from the target point.
