Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a retinal disease seen in pregnancies at risk of premature birth and in babies with low birth weight. ROP occurs in the retinal layer of the premature babies’ eyes, in avascular areas, and causes nerve damage, resulting in vision loss. In Retinopathy of Prematurity Diagnostic Center of Reyap Hospital, retinopathy of prematurity is diagnosed, and this diagnosis is successfully treated.

Babies, who have low birth week and low birth weight, are referred to our center by newborn physicians 28 days after they are born. After the first examination performed, the retina behind the eyes of the babies is examined by our specialist physicians indirectly, with an ophthalmoscope, and the frequency of follow-up is determined according to the ROP finding and the severity of the disease.

If there is not a very risky appearance in terms of ROP in our center, babies are followed up by our specialists every two weeks until the vascularization in the eye is completed. However, if the finding of ROP has developed, depending on the severity and stage of the finding, babies are closely followed up in our center every 2-3 days a week and emergency treatment is performed in our center when necessary.
